SQUARE BRAKETS CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

[square brackets] is a newsletter produced jointly by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) (www.cbd.int)  and the CBD Alliance (www.cbdalliance.info). The newsletter aims to facilitate timely dialogue among civil society stakeholders on cutting edge biodiversity issues, from both policy (advocacy and decision-making) and practical (implementation) perspectives.

The new edition of [square brackets] will be published in April 2016 to coincide with the twentieth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 20), being held in Montreal 25-30 April 2016, and the first meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation, being held 2-6 May 2016 in Montreal.  We invite short articles from members of civil society and indigenous peoples and local communities all over the world.

Specifically, we are interested in receiving articles related to issues being addressed at SBSTTA 20 (www.cbd.int/doc/?meeting=SBSTTA-20) and the first meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (www.cbd.int/doc/?meeting=SBI-01), including:

  • Marine and coastal biodiversity
  • Invasive alien species
  • Synthetic biology
  • IPBES assessment on pollinators, pollination and food production
  • Biodiversity and climate change
  • Sustainable wildlife management
  • Protected areas and ecosystem restoration
  • Mainstreaming of biodiversity across sectors, including agriculture, forests, fisheries and tourism

You will find the guidelines for the articles and contact information in the following file:

Thematic Working Groups (TWG)

As an effort to enhance our work and create awareness on relevant matters directly related to the CBD negotiation process, the CBD Alliance will launch in 2016 its Thematic Working Groups. Their objective is to create spaces to exchange views, discuss, gather and develope material and organize events around certain main topics that arise from the concerns of the members and what is being discussed in the negotiation process. The first TWG will be on: Agriculture; Forests; Fishery; SDG´s and Market and Non market based mechanisms. Those interested in being part of one or more groups can contact us through our mail addresses or via facebook.
